giant, uneven front teeth

#1 Post by Temps75 »

Hey all! I just had a quick question... mainly getting opinions from you all. One of my main concerns about my teeth is that I feel like my two front teeth are ginormous. Seriously, I feel like they are going to take over my face. Even one of my friends, who has the same sort of teeth I do, once said "HEY! You have two really big front teeth too!" UGH. I was not happy with that comment. She wasn't being rude at all--just relating. But I didn't like that it was said out loud, lol. Anyway, so with my treatment, they are bringing the top lateral incisors forward and pushing the central incisors back a bit, so they are all even. My question is, after treatment, will my teeth look more even? And more of the same size? I hate my chicklet teeth. I just want an even smile.

Also, the bottoms of my central incisors are quite uneven... I think due to grinding. You can see that the right one is quite rounded on the bottom, while the left is a straight line--can they fix this somehow?

I can't tell you for sure. I think your ortho will have to look and decide from the xrays whether or not the centrals can be intruded (into the gum) or if they are too big.
This will be done in the initial Alignment and Leveling phase.

As for the wear on your teeth, your ortho may do some contouring.

Cool, I was about to ask the exact same question!

Seems like we both made a great choice on finally getting some metal on those chompers :D

I totally know what you mean. I also felt my front teeth were HUGE and it really didn't help that they were overjetted. (Is overjetted a word?) Anyway I've had braces for (has it really been) 9 months and things look much more balanced now. My front teeth are still bigger than average, (genetic roll of the dice there) but with my laterals pulled down and now in place, more or less, next to the front teeth, and my canines no longer "fangs", I really no longer have that "bucked" tooth feeling. Give it some time for the braces to work, but it wouldn't hurt to bring up your concern now to your ortho to see what he says.

The ortho can fix this and hopefully make the feel less obvious looking for you. They will still be similar size, but by adjusting other teeth - they will look more proportionate. They might also be able to sculpt some teeth if needed.

Braces can really work wonders. Try and not fear them - they rarely leave you looking worse than you did before, as long as you find the right ortho to do your work. You have to believe your ortho can help you too... or you'll just be fighting the whole process.

By the looks of your teeth you'll be fine!!!

If after treatment you still feel the same way the ortho or your dentist can shave a bit off the bottoms and shape them up for you for the perfect look.

Really don't worry, it doesn't look like you'll have any big issues here.

Hi Katie, my two front teeth are even bigger than yours and I am happy to say they are evening out with the rest of my teeth nicely with my braces. my story is here and you can see the difference.
Mine were also uneven, then they became even a few weeks ago, now the other one is longer... I can't win!! I am sure it will all be straightened out as time progresses - this 'evening' out part seems the easiest!!
take care

Katie, I think you have beautiful teeth. I predict you will be very happy with them after braces.

Hi Katie,

My dentist said that having long front teeth makes you look younger. Something about how older people tend to wear down their teeth, so having longer front teeth indicates being younger! With the wrinkles and white hairs coming on strong in my area of the woods, I like anything that makes me look younger :)

As you will notice, I have quite impressive GINORMOUS front teeth. Excellent for crunching carrots.

My central incisor bottoms are also uneven, but I never really noticed until you posted this! Perhaps it is because your teeth look really great already, so you may notice more imperfections than someone with more... um... crooked teeth like mine.

Best wishes for your journey, and sorry I could not answer your question.

I have the opposite problem. My upper centrals seem a bit small and short compared to my laterals and am hoping they are brought down a bit eventually. :|

All I can say is-WOW! I didn't expect quite a response from this post! Thank you all for answering! I'm a little less nervous now, and I am SO excited to see my result (I haven't even gotten the braces on yet, lol). Thanks for sharing all of your opinions/relations. It's such great comfort to know that there is this community where I can confide my insecurities about my teeth--and people can relate! It's so awesome. Thanks again!
