Progress Report

#1 Post by KikiloSugilo »

I haven't been around in a while, but I wanted to post some photos of my recent progress. I was pleasantly surprised when my ortho informed me at my last appointment that I was nearing the completion of treatment. I actually came quite close to tears, as the end did not seem anywhere in sight. Straightening my teeth was a relatively easy process, however it was my bite which needed intense repair. To correct my underbite, I was required to wear elastics from my upper molars to the lower canines for about 10 months. Once my underbite had been corrected, I began wearing elastics to close my open bite. They are boxes that go from canine to bicuspid on the left and right, and in the front a box that covers the incisors, it's pretty wild. The ortho says that, that portion is almost complete, and I couldn't be anymore thrilled! I've posted pictures from October 2007 (Pink powerchain), January 2008 (Blue Powerchain), and June 2008 (Pink ligs).

They look great! Quick question though, why does it look like you don't have a wire completely across your teeth? It looks like on top and on bottom (from the canines back), that there is no wire -- that is just what I see -- is that really there or did they cut the wire, then put a partial wire on or something?

I was wondering the same thing purpleteeth was. Your elastics config really makes your teeth look like they're behind bars. I can't imagine taking those out and putting them back to snack through out the day.

Purpleteeth, my ortho never explained why, but I only have partial wires in the front, both top and bottom. Believe it or not, I actually just eat with the elastics in, I find it much easier that removing them all the time. However I'm reduced to cutting my food into tiny portions.
