Why molar bands on bottom but no wire?

#1 Post by tryinthis2 » Mon Jun 02, 2008 11:39 pm

I have 6 on top and bottom and wire on top but not bottom.
seems odd
I asked why but I got this "over my head" explanation.

Do your top teeth currently overlap your bottom teeth quite a bit when you bite down? If so, there might not be enough room for bottom brackets and wire, and your top teeth will need to move a bit first.

I expect your ortho thought it would be easier just to put all the bands on top and bottom at once, so they are ready for use when required.

yes my top ones are overlapping quite a bit....

do the wires make the teeth move right? So is just having the wire on the front 6 make much of a difference? it's easier to brush and floss so I'm not complaining...lol..just curious. I definately feel like the top teeth are moving but I cant "see" a difference in the mirror yet.

Check out my story (link in my signature below) - I've got a similar configuration.

My ortho put the bands on my bottom molars on when I don't have my wire on yet. This was because he didn't want me to wear spacers twice. So here I am with bands around my back teeth and my bottom braces don't go on for a couple more months!

so your issue is right in the front like me.

Youre at 3 months..right? so have you had the lowers on? How have your teeth progressed?

Yup only the front teeth need changing.

No lowers on yet but I don't think its far away. My next adjustment is on July 10 and I hope they will tell me then when my lowers go on.

There has been LOTS of progress. A rather large gap has opened up under my wonky tooth and they've all tipped out a good 1.5mm like they're supposed to. Its possible your ortho has a very similar treatment plan in mind for you :)

I think after reading other people's posts I will be asking more questions about the teeth moving.
Glad to hear you're progressing.....cant wait til I do.

I had this happen, but not with that many brackets. My back molars on both sides, tops and bottoms, were not braced until my first adjustment --- 10 weeks into treatment! I forgot why they said they did this but I think it had something to do with getting my jaw cells to regenerate or something... and it was easier/ less painful in the beginning to not have those attached. When I got the wire put in the brackets at the next visit, I noticed a drastic change immediately in terms of pressure - but it felt "complete". I didn't like having the brackets just sitting there...
