MsViola: My ortho told me to try to be mindful of when I'm doing it and try to stop. I asked her what could be done and she said nothing really. I wonder if they would put some sort of cleat/crib appliance in to keep me from doing it?

My teeth are loose, I can feel them "pop" when I play with them. I sure Freud would say that I have some sort of oral fixation. I sucked my thumb for 34 years and now I'm sucking my teeth.

Yes, I am ready to hand over my membership card too! I started with a 10 mm overjet. I WAS a bucky beaver! Hey, all the kids called me that in school, and I even had braces back then.

My overbite has greatly improved with this final round of braces (third time's a charm!)

Too bad I have to deal with the elastics that make the inside of my cheeks raw and the HP headgear in order to hand in this membership card.
Braced for the third time.....

final adjustment 8/21 and debanding 8/27!

Laura: Kids can be so mean! Luckily I didn't get teased much. I became a master at hiding my "Bucky" teeth. :-9

I'm ready to hand over my membership too! And thanks to my surgery I no longer have any overbite/overjet! i finally feel like I look normal.
I think they moved my jaw forward about 7-8mm.
My two front teeth used to come out like bunny teeth...so glad that that's gone! i can't wait to see my new smile :)

rasberry: Good for you :jump:

I am curious why did you have to go the surgery route in order to fix your overbite? Does it make it quicker or did you have other reasons?? Also was that the only way to completely fix your overbite?

It was the only option I was given by my orthodontist. I could have had just straight teeth, but with the same old bite (overjet and overbite), so I decided to do the surgery, because the reason I got braces was because I was having bad headaches, grinding, chipped teeth etc..

The surgery actually wasn't that bad... there was a rough 2 weeks of recovery, but I'm so happy now that I went through with it.

rasberry: Thanks for the reply. I am just curious as why some people (me) can have larger overbites and have them corrected without surgery. I did have to have 2 pre-molars removed :-(( . Yes, I was a big baby about it. I have never had a tooth pulled.

Granted I may have a 1mm overbite when it is all over. However, having started out with 10mm (1 ortho said 11 mm). I feel like I hit the jackpot.

I have already torn up my card and I don't care about being a "honorary member"

Meryaten: Thanks for the reply. I don't think I had any over jet problems. It was also helpful that my teeth were already straight (I guess).

meryaten: Thanks for the info. I should have been more clear about the 1mm. I meant I may be about 1 mm over the norm (approximately 3 mm). I was happy with that scenario. :-#)

I am very thankful that I had not had any previous exractions to further complicate my case.

Viola,
I don't know... it may have something to do with your age.
I had a consultation with a dentist who did orthodontics (not an orthodontist), and he wanted to do things differently. He wanted to put in an expander on my bottom jaw, and not remove any teeth, or give me surgery.

I chose to have the surgery, and have 4 premolars removed.

I don't know :Questions: I had just turned 36 when I was braced. The ortho I chose didn't mention surgery at all.

I had a consult with one ortho who suggested the surgery you had. She didn't mention removing any teeth.

The 3rd ortho consult thought it would not be necessary to do surgery, if I had my upper pre-molars removed.

Now I am wondering if removing the teeth was a good idea. Oh well, they are gone now anyway and would have had to be crowned anyway :?

Anyhoooooooo! On to the finish line!

oh, I couldn't tell from the picture... I thought maybe you were really young(like teens/late teens)... it's hard to tell from a picture of teeth...
either way, as long as you get a good result then that's all that matters right :D

rasberry: :-* I really must change that pic. Although my mouth and teeth pretty much look like the pic they are not mine. I am going to try to figure out how to put the pic of my viola back up.

I had to smile because people are always saying I look really young (not in my teens) but early to mid 20's. I look even younger with braces!

Hey they really should use braces on "10 years younger" :D
