I am finally getting my braces off tomorrow! I CAN NOT WAIT! I am very nervous as I have a couple sensitive teeth. I don't think I am going to sleep tonight! After 22 months and 1 gum surgery, I am done! I will have top and bottom permanent retainers, so I'll only be naked for a moment, but what a thrill! Wish me luck!

Thanks, everyone for your words of encouragement! I got debanded this morning. It went well. I got permanent retainers on top and bottoms put on before taking the braces off, so I didn't get to feel naked. I might have the ortho shave one of the bottom teeth, but otherwise, I'm happy with the results.

Here are some pics to share!

Your teeth look so pretty! The lateral incisors are so even now and the bottoms are lined up in a nice arch. Awesome results! :-)o

your teeth look incredible, you must be delighted!

was debanding painful? I've only had my braces for a couple of weeks but I'm dreading getting the brackets off. the pressure needed to put the ligs on my brackets was scarey...i can't imagine the pressure needed to eventually take the brackets off.

You smile looks beautiful!
How are you finding the permanent retainer so far? Does it feel really noticable? Is it annoying?
Is it something you can live withand forget about ( I will be getting one so I am curious).

Congrats on your great success!

Thanks for the comments. It's so hard to tell how they look since I'm my own worst critic. Debanding wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was really nervous because of a couple sensitive teeth. The ortho ripped one of my brackets off when one of the doors wouldn't open and I think I got freaked out from that experience. I took a pain pill prior to the appointment and I think that's what helped me. I didn't feel much pain yesterday afterward, but am feeling it today. I always feel like someone hit me in the mouth with a baseball bat after adjustments, so it's a similar feeling today.

As far as the permanent retainer, it feels like I've got permanent plaque on the back of my teeth. I'm sure I'll get used to them. The wires are so thin and not noticeable at all. I'm trying to get used to my evening retainers. I am not able to keep them in my mouth longer than a few minutes without my gag reflex kicking in. Sounds like I just have to take my time getting used to them.

I am kind of disappointed because I thought when I got debanded I'd be "done" with the uncomfortable feeling. With the evening retainers I don't think I'll feel comfortable until I'm done with them in a year. I think the permanent ones will be easy to get used to. I also feel like I still have the braces on right now. It's a strange feeling and hopefully it will go away. Guess my mouth has gotten so used to having them in there that it's trying to get used to it without them!!
