Hi, am getting braced on the 16th. About getting the teeth throughly cleaned before hand. Does

A.The ortho perform the cleaning

or

B.I have to book an appointment myself at my dentist to get them cleaned

or

C.Dont get cleaned

The ortho has said anything to me about cleaning before the braces.

The clean the surfaces of the teeth that the braces are applied to, so in that sense, it won't interfere with things.

However, as braces make cleaning more challenging, but by no means impossible, it might be a good idea to get the hygienist to clean beforehand, then depending on how you get on every 6 months / as recommended by your ortho.

I went to the hygienist a week before I had braces fitted, and she gave me lots of tips on how to clean with braces, and a collection of free things to clean arround the teeth and braces to try.

Good luck on B day!

to my knowledge orthos dont do cleanings they just polish off the surface of the tooth that the bracket is attatched to

i did mine about 2 weeks before i got braced at my dentist's office with the hygenist
it was around my 6month visit anyhow
and she advised that i revisit for a cleaning in 3mths to see how i get along with brushing in braces and then she will decide how often she wants me to have cleanings done
as i have some supposed early gingervitis signs (my gums only bleed at the cleanings and when the ortho assistant was putting in spacers)

I'd had my teeth cleaned about a month before I got braced, with the hygienist at my dental surgery. However, when the ortho braced me up, he did a quick scrub and polish so that the glue would adhere properly to my teeth.
You can still have your teeth cleaned while you're in braces - in fact it's probably more important now. Only difference is you'll get an air polish at the end because they can't physically scrub the front of the teeth.
I went for a really good clean about a fortnight ago and the difference is amazing! My new gaps are even bigger, but it was lovely to have the sides of my teeth cleaned for the first time ever!

Hello!

A. The dental hygenist at your dentists office does the cleaning. Also make sure they check for cavities. I got mine cleaned about 3 weeks before I got braced. On brace day, the ortho's assistant rubbed this thick green stuff all over my teeth. Then I had to rinse it out...she said it was to get the surfaces of my teeth really clean. Then they polished my teeth till they were all shiny and pretty.

B. It depends. I am new in town so the ortho recommended his dentist. The assistant offered to make an appointment for me. Normally, you'd be making the appointment yourself.

C. YES YES YES!! Get cleaned! It's worth it! If you can afford it, get your teeth clean every 4-6 months.

There wasn't time for me to get cleaned, as I took a last minute cancellation. My dentist's office isn't easy to get in for in terms of cleanings anyway, besides regular scheduled ones. I had my teeth cleaned almost 5months before I had braces put on. Yes, I was told they would have preferred me to have a cleaning beforehand - but it wasn't possible, so they didn't make a big deal about it.

My ortho cleaned the surfaces of all of my teeth, as needed, before the braces were put on. I had my teeth cleaned about 5 weeks after I got them on at my normal 6 month cleaning. My dentist's office was ready for me in my braces and everything went like clock-work at the cleaning!

Now, I have my cleanings every THREE MONTHS - and I schedule them between adjustments at the ortho, so I am seen about every 6 weeks by either my ortho or my dentist (since doing xrays are difficult to check for cavities and such).

My ortho had me make an appt with my reg dentist for a standard cleaning so there would be no tartar on my teeth, then when I had the braces installed they did a few things to prepare the surface of the tooth. Not sure what your refering too. Probably you're talking about the dentist cleaning. Usually it is required to have one before or have had one very recently before the braces go on.

I had gone in for my consult with my ortho two weeks before my cleaning and got braced about 6 weeks later. My ortho's office that they like their patients teeth cleaned within 3 months of getting braces. My cleaning before gave me the opportunity to follow up with my dentist on my treatment plan and he reassured me that I was making the right decision.

Normally I go for cleaning every 4 months, but while my braces are on, I'll go every three months.

I just recently had my first adjustment on Tuesday the 22nd and then had my teeth cleaned at dentist office on Thursday the 24th. It was a little uncomfortable since I was still a little sore but teeth look great, had needed to clean them before i got braces and it wasnt time yet (i go every 6 months).
