Long time, no post

#1 Post by Nawners »

It's been a while since I've looked around here, and even longer since posting, but I'm very frustrated and thought coming here may calm some of my frustration.
I have been braced for over a year now, and there has been hardly any change at all. My gaps are just not closing. I expressed my concern with my ortho, who decided I should come in every three weeks instead of every six... I currently have ligs going from tooth to tooth, and a powerchain over that. I have also been in class c elastics for about six months. I realize things take time, but my teeth were not bad to begin with. I didn't think I'd have to be wearing braces for so long. Does anyone have any advice or experience to speak to this?

Hi, I'm sorry about how disappointing things have been. Do you have any pics? If you could post that would help a lot. Does the ortho you go to have a good reputation? Does he talk to you about your treatment and give you reasons and answers when you ask Qs? Just some things I thought of in trying to guess whether the prob is the Ortho or perhaps that the treatment is more complicated than a lay person would think frm just looking

I read an article on the net from a university (cannot recall the link) that said that teeth go through a breakdown and rebuild cycle while being moved in Orthodontic treatment and that 3 weeks is the time for the breakdown process on average. That said, my not professional opinion I wouldnt want my adjustment to be at 3 weeks exactly but at least a bit thereafter.

My own adjustments take place about 4 weeks (+ 2 dys) apart. I dont think it necessarily speeds my treatment (my teeth were not very complicated case and only estimated 1 year but now I'm at 1 1/2 years and still braced). I think the shorter adjustment periods may just help the Ortho catch whatever changes did occur faster, and so take off with them to the next step in treatment.

There were several adjustments that I had in which nothing happened month after month and only my stained ligs were changed, not even my archwire was removed or changed! In my case, I think it is beneficial for my Ortho to see me tho' for no real reason because I pay $550 (TTD) for each visit.
