3 days to go...Should my teeth STILL be moving???

#1 Post by MsTiaLia »

Hi all,

As many of you know, I was supposed to have my braces removed a few weeks ago, but that dream was shot down b/c my teeth had overcorrected!!!

Since that time, I have had another adjustment. Some minor tweaks on the bottom wire and a change in rubber band configuration. Prior to this visit, I was wearing triangle formations on both the left and right sides during the day and at night, the same two triangles plus another rubber band that went from the bottom left to the top right. On this day, I was reduced to the two triangles at night only.

When I woke up the next day and looked in the mirror, my midline that was perfect the day before had shifted! I called the ortho's office that morning. I'm SURE he thought I was just being paranoid, but he asked me to come in so he could check it anyway. Well, I may be paranoid, but I was not crazy. It had, indeed, shifted!!! He couldn't understand why b/c he said that the changes he made the day before wouldn't have affected my midline! Anyway, he gave me a new (and strange looking) rubber band configuration to wear 24/7 on the left side and at night I'd add in the triangle on the right.

So, now, I think I'm going to have to aggravate him again tomorrow! Over the weekend I've noticed that when I wake up in the morning, everything feels great. My bite is very comfy and I've got contact everywhere! Then I brush and put the weird rubber band on the left and go about my business. THEN, an hour or so later, my bite feels lopsided!!! It is like that all day long! Then, overnight, I guess it goes back to normal when I have both rubber bands in place!

Is this much variation normal during the final days???? I would've thought things would have been more settled at this point! Should I worry about this?? Is this likely to settle down with my retainer? Things were actually quite settled 2 months ago when the took the molds for my retainer!!! I wish they had just taken the braces off back then

Thanks for your input!!!

Hey MsTiaLia!

The same thing happend to me, I thought I was gettin my braces off today but one of my teeth was overcorrected! Sounds like you got some pretty complicated stuff goin on with your elastics. I would just keep wearing the weird rubberband on the left and see what it looks like at your next appointment. Even though it feels weird, it really is working!

Don't be discouraged, you want to make sure everything is where it should be... I'm sure you will have them off in no time!

Hi Breal,

Turns out, the rubber band that I had going across the front of my mouth prior to last week was called a "midline elastic" so it kind of makes everything else make sense! I decided to be a bad ortho patient and add that rubber band back in last night before bed and when I got up this morning...voila! MOVEMENT!!! I called my ortho's office this morning and asked if I could resume using that midline elastic and he said "no problem."

I will be SO HAPPY when this is over! Prayerfully, that day will be Thursday!
