Metal Mouth Message Board

Anyone else herre sing in a choir or chorus or for fun with a group? I do and find certain sounds hard to make with a mouth full of metal: such as rolled "r"s, "th" of course, and really crisp "d"s. Iwas hopeing some of this would clear up with practice but still an issue at present. If I get some kind of bite plate I may be in for real mush mouth singing.

Anyone else??

I, too, am a singer and had real problems at first. It's almost 11 months and the problems are all but gone. The only time I have problems is when the music is fast and there are a lot of words to get out in a short amount of time!!!

I have to watch out for final "s" and "th" as they are emphasized by the braces, but other than that, there are no problems.

I sing too. My problems are with "f" and "v" words. Actually, though, I've been told the rest of my diction is actually better because I'm just more focused on it. I was much more self conscious about it early on. You'll soon forget you even thought about it!

I had no particular trouble with any sounds but rapid consonants can be difficult. My ortho recommended that I use some vaseline on the front, upper brackets. It acted as a lubricant and made things easier.
I was pleased with the way my tone improved while wearing braces and am glad to say that I have retained it.

I sing too! In a large choir of 50 people, about 3 of us have braces; I got my braces (tops only, bottoms in 3 months) only 10 days ago. We had 3 big shows all in one day (Oct.18th/07, seven days after me getting my braces on, and it was my first concert with braces, I tried to sing just like I did pre-braces, the first performance of the day was weird but the rest went great!! I find some sounds difficult but don't be worried the audience doesn't notice. Just practise and you'll get better at it.

I sing too... in my car on my way to work... haha... I just turn the volume up more if I can't sing the song very well
