OK, I've seen a lot of weird stuff on the 'net, but used braces on ebay ? Headgear on ebay ? Braces for dogs ?

One ebay listing which is now closed had a full set of used braces, 4 molar bands, all of the brackets, and apparently the last arch wire. WHO WOULD WANT THIS ????

As for braces for dogs, if you want more info (hopefully just because you are curious !), just do a search on "braces for dogs" or "canine orthodontics". What next, braces for your pet rabbit ?? For your fish ??

Sandra, there's quite an active braces fetish scene, believe it or not. There are also sites where you can get your own fake braces made attached to a retainer-type device. It's possible that a fetishist would wish to use somebody's old braces in some way, similar to people who have fetishes for smelly shoes (plenty of those for sale on ebay too!)

If you don't believe me, I have links, but of course won't post them on here

I've heard of the braces for dogs too. I can't imagine there'd be much market for it except for show animals where a perfect bite is required. Seems a bit unkind to put a dog through the ordeal of braces. :?

Hmmmmmm Used braces on eBay.....Mine are coming off here in a few weeks......The squirrells are running hard in their exerciser now. How much can I get for them, I wonder!

OK, so I am not serious, but the thought is crossing my mind! :)

My husband and I have joked that when my braces are taken off I will keep them and we'll stick them to his teeth so he can experience what it feels like ... but this is absolutely NOT for fetish purposes. :-) But I must say the braces are working really nicely with my cheerleader costume (JUST KIDDING)

NotBob, it took me a while to figure out your squirrels remark ! I take it you mean that you are thinking hard about it. :-)

I think he's going to look really cute in braces. :-)

Btw, he's SO lucky. He has perfect occlusion and only one flaw, a gap between his upper centrals. It's not a large gap, and I find it really attractive. I'm envious of the way his arches are so perfect and his uppers fit just outside his lowers all of the way around. Poor guy has had his teeth inspected in the last month more than all of the rest of his life. :-) I keep telling him "open your mouth for a sec".

Sandra, you just gave me a great halloween idea! teen cheerleader! I'm going to see if I can fit into my high school cheer clothes! Good thing I got my skirts down to my knees! I was a modest one! I bet this will have my BF rolling around, and I'll get matching ligs for the uniform! HAHAHA Or I can go as the geeky cheerleader! Oh how fun!

I still don't understand fetishes with braces....

You know, it's funny you mention your husband, Sandra! My wife is considering going in to be the next "victim". We thought it would be a money saving technique to use my brackets over!! I doubt it is possible, especially with the molar bands....but it's an iinteresting idea.

I know they reuse some of the stuff. I have a "torque spring" across my fronts that I will bet anything has been used on someone before....I say this because it came out of a container with several others and it had weird bends to it that were straightened out. It really does not bother me, as long as they are sterilized. My guess is that most of us have some sort of something recycled in one way or an other in our mouths.

I also noticed that the brackets I had installed almost two years ago were "Innovation-R" (and they are these) Yet they were in an "ORMCO" tray. Kind of funny!

I think I will see if I can keep mine just for kicks! No....Not to sell! I just looked, and you're right...$20.00 maybe....

My dog has a perfect smile, so no braces for her. As far as Halloween costumes go, I was thinking about going as Ugly Betty. I'm already latina, so I'll have at least two things going for me as far as looking like her goes. :)

people are selling braces on ebay? I wouldn't mind keeping my brackets just for the heck of it, though I'd be wary of buying someone else's...

Sandra, my husband has beautiful teeth too :( he just has very slight crowding on his lowers, but his top teeth are perfect and he has a beautiful class I bite - sickening!

Jewelry from old braces. I'll ask the art teacher what she thinks about the possibility. Or maybe I should go industrial and ask the shop teacher instead.

As for fetishes, one of my students has a t shirt "steel - it does a body good" with a big circular barbell so why not.

It's funny, some people like to keep their braces when we take them off, others would rather we just throw them out.

We don't recycle braces for sure, and I've never heard of an orthodontist doing that, but there are things that we sterilize and use again. The instruments are an obvious example. We don't sterilize and reuse any appliances that go in your mouth, though; no springs or wires or headgear or expanders.

Sometimes one company has a better "container" to hold things in, we will put things in other companies containers similar to the Innovations in the Ormco container. :)

Well now you've given me an idea for a Halloween costume: painfully nerdy junior high schooler. :-) Complete with braces and acne. (At 46, I still have an occasional breakout and it drives me batty !) It would be kind of like Ugly Betty only much less chic ! I wonder if I can find a pocket protector anywhere.
