Banding

#1 Post by metalgrill »

I had my bands put on today and I'm having my brackets in a few days. They feel so weird in my mouth I hope I can get use to them sooner than later. Will my mouth be sore over the next few days? Right now I'm not feeling any pain at all...I wasn't sure if that would change over the next week or so.

Hi metalgrill, the bands are nothing. The only thing about them that will be irritating is if you have cleats on the inside. Mine bothered me and my ortho removed them. The bands are better than the spacers. I think a lot of people on the board will say the spacers were the worst part of the deal. So you should be good to go. Wait until you start getting wires and things start moving around a bit. You'll have a tender tooth every now and then, but nothing unbearable.

Good luck.

Hey Michal,

You're right the bands are nothing...I've had the bands on for like 3 days and it's really just an irriation more than anything. It's hard to eat my tongue and cheek keep getting pinched! That sux.

After an adjustment, the hooks on my bands (for elastics) always catch when I open my mouth a certain distance so I always have to either use my tongue or a finger to gently remove the skin from the hook. SO annoying!!!!!!!

When I first got them, I had holes on the inside of my cheeks from the hooks. At my first adjustment (6 weeks later!) I asked my ortho to bend them in and he was like 'WHY DIDNT YOU COME SEE ME SOONER?!" and wanted to know why I waited so long - I told him I figured the pain was part of the process and not to worry about it.

Jeez. I thought braces were supposed to make you miserable! ;)
