What is root torquing?

#1 Post by fozzy »

hello! At my last adjustment my dentist put on a stronger archwire on my bottom arch, and told me he was "torquing the roots".
Not exactly sure what this means. Is this normally done closer to the end of treatment? As far as I can see, my lower teeth are practically perfect now (though I do not have the trained eye of an orthodontist!)

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

It is changing the angle of the root, most likely to a more ideal angle. If Think of closing a space with a tooth that is angled like so: \

Root torquing would be like having the final outcome of the tooth more up righted, like so: |

Good Luck,
Rory
