Final X-rays

I wanted to get some advice whether final X-rays are necessary.

I getting my braces off in 3 weeks and at my last appointment my technitian mentioned that I would need to get x-rays after I got the braces off. When I asked why she mentioned something about legal liability.

Now I don't really want to get any more x-rays than necessary, plus I have to pay $150 for them which was never mentioned to me before.(I paid everything else up front) From people's experience, are these necessary?, should I make a big deal about getting them and if necessary try to refuse them altogether?

Thanks

Well gee, it seems to me if this is limiting their liability it seems like they should pay for it!

If you are worried about the xray itself I can understand. You might want to ask them what the risk is. I was told it was very, very, very small.

Anyway, I would push back and if they really NEED these things, then they should do it for free.

It's so they can say, "look, here are the teeth, no braces on so no more movement caused by us, the teeth are straight and the roots are good." They do it so they have proof they got everything right, and if your teeth move back you can't say they didn't do a good job and try to take them to court or anything.

Yes they have already done an x-ray to check root positions, about 3 months ago.

I haven't had a chance to call them yet, but I will on monday and I'll tell you what happens. It doesn't seem like everyone is getting x-rays after the braces come off so at least I'm not totally off base in objecting to them paying for it.
