yes i had braces also and it completed destroyed my profile when i see my old photos before the braces I cry. The changes I noticed was my teeth were also pushed too far back and i have black spaces(buccal corridors) after the extraction where as before i never had this also my face got narrow and my cheekbones went flat..i am still looking for a orthadontist to reverse the braces and open the gaps but im having trouble finding one as the orthodontics i have spoken too don't understand why i would want to reverse extraction or don't know how to do it.

I am sorry that you had to go through this. I hope you find a good doctor to help you out. Experiencing it firsthand, I cannot believe the amount emotional distress something as mundane as teeth can cause.

At a consult yesterday the ortho said for some patients who come in to fix that slanted look there is a wire he places that helps rotate the teeth back forward. I forgot what the name of it. He went on to say that at that point he places dental implants so maybe that also opens any spaces.

I sincerely hope my ortho helps me and doesn't ask me to pay $$$. Thanks for sharing the info.

I finally reached 10 posts and can post pictures. Attached are the pre and post images. It does not capture the complete look effectively (the actual look is way worse), but will give some idea.

Ladnib, if that bottom row is your before photos (called "pre"), you look 100% better in your after photos, to me.

Ladnib I can see what you mean about the teeth but I do think your profile is improved.

I agree that the braces have helped. I definitely do not want to reverse the treatment. But I want to go back to last year. I was in braces for 28 months and at the end of 14 months, it was awesome. But then to close a 2mm or so gap on each side, my ortho kept pushing my teeth in. I have attached some more photos (the 14months are blurry, sorry). I appreciate your comments. They are comforting.

Your profile has definitely improved, and your smile. Of course it's different to look at a 2D photo or at you in person, but if that's just your relaxed and natural smile, and not forced to show teeth, then I say you look fine. Obviously, if you are not happy that's what matters (and not our opinion) and you should ask your ortho if something can be done about it. Maybe a reverse pull headgear to bring everything forward those 2 mm that you are now unhappy about?

Good luck to you!

To be honest, I thought your profile now looks better than when you first started, and no, it does not look like you do not have teeth and are wearing dentures. Perhaps you and your family and friends you have been so used to your pre braces smile and hence think you look better before.

But at the end of the day, what we think doesn't matter. What matters is if you are happy with your smile. I'm sorry I don't have any useful advice to give you regarding what you could do. But please do talk to your ortho about your concerns.

Did your ortho put you on power chains to push your front teeth back?

I have an appointment on Wednesday. Let’s hope he does something to fix the slanted look. Fingers crossed. I cannot stop stressing out about it. Haven’t slept properly in 3 weeks.

Your after profile looks so much better for me. Maybe ask for a removable appliance to make you a rounder upper arch to widen a little your smile without compromising your excellent profile result.

Yes, he did. I am curious why do you ask? Could it be that the power chain caused the backward slant?

I'm not sure if the power chain could cause a backward slant like that. I know that the ortho could have your teeth point outward a little bit more if youd like

At the very least, I want to get rid of the backward slant. After reading the helpful comments on this forum, I feel confident that it should be achievable and should be a relatively quick fix. I am still skeptical that my ortho would admit that he pushed my teeth too in and would be willing to pull the bite out a little. I will know by the end of the week.

I think instead of telling him that he "pushed your teeth too in", maybe you can tell him you prefer them pointing outward a little and leave it at that. So that it doesn't sound as if you are blaming him, and you could avoid a situation where he then gets defensive. Just focus on the result that you want instead of making this sound like according blame.
