Detail Appointment. What is this?

#1 Post by Brooke »

Hey!

I found out at my last adjustment that my upcoming appt will be a detail visit. What exactly is this? I asked and the nurse said that they make sure everything is just right, but how exactly do they do this? Should I expect x-rays, new placement of brackets? Any info is appreciated. Thanks, :D

Hi Brook!
My last appt was a 1/2 hour detail appt. They didn't take any x-rays..basically it was just the ortho taking more time to look around in my mouth, read my chart and make an changes necessary. It's basically just a tad bit more personal attention than on a normal quick adjustment appt. At least that's what it was for me.

I am not sure if it is done often, I think that they do this towards the end of your treatment, if I'm not mistaken. Because my ortho told me about this upcoming appt after we discussed braces removal. I definitely think that if your ortho thought that you needed an extra look, he/she would definitely do that. I also had no idea about these detail appts, I know at some point they need to take xrays again and things like that. When does that happen?

Oooh! I think I have one of these 'detail appointments' coming up.

At my last adjustment, the assistant said that next time, the ortho would be with me the whole time. (Usually, the adjustment is done by an assistant, and the ortho just comes and checks.)

I had another panorex xray taken at my last adjustment, after 9 months of treatment... It was to check root parallelism.
From what I've read here... 9 months seems to be a little late for the 2nd set of xrays.

I am only 8 months into a 30 month treatment plan so I think it's done once things really get moving .. sort of to re-analyze the situation while alot is going on. I had the one detail last month, have another 1/2 hour detail again on the 17th of this month...unsure how many or how often but I have to tell you I love these appts because you walk out of there feeling like you got alot of extra care! I do not like feeling like I was pushed through quickly..these appts give you more confidence that they are on top of things! :)

I haven't had a second set of Xrays done yet and it's been 8 months..I wouldn't guess they would want to do them too often.

Usually at a detail appointment they reposition your brackets or bend your wires. Its where they want your teeth to be in certain positions. They basically tweak your teeth in a tiny amount so your smile will be perfect.

I still haven't had my second set of xrays and I've had braces for more than 10 months. My ortho did say that she would be sending me to the xray technician soon though.

like secretagent437 said. Detailing is making very small adjustments to establish proper contact points between teeth and molars.
Uppers: Permanent retainer + hawley (night)
Lowers: Permanent retainer

Debanded since the 16th of Jan.

I seem to have long appointments every time I go in. There is always much to be done, don't know if that's a good or bad sign. I have never had a 5 minute appointment.

Well, I have never been told that I am having a "detail" appointment, but I am positive I got one today. The tech took off my ligs and wire and called over the ortho. I got a lot of face time with him today. I got a heavier wire and he had to put some bends in it, so he spent a lot of time at the chair today. He also seemed to have extra instructions for the tech and we discussed my upcoming surgery and whether or not he thought I was on track to get it done in May or June (I am!!!).
