Tongue Thrusting

#1 Post by ericft »

Ever since I got braced I notice that instead of my usual clenching of teeth, I am thrusting my tongue against my teeth which I don't bring into occlusion. I am getting pretty sore around the edges of my tongue with tooth impressions on it.
Does anyone else out there seem to have that sort of tongue irritation? Any tricks/suggestions as to how to lessen it.
I'm also concerned that if this problem persists, when my teeth are finally done I may force them out of alignment again....

Happy Holidays, for those who can eat well, have some extra for your soup and mashed potatoes friends!!!

stop playing with your tongue, try to don't concentrate on moving your tongue, and the more you do the soreness will disappear

I did the same when I got my braces - once ur tongue gets used to everything then it will be fine. Wait for another week or so.

I have exactly the same thing. It goes away for a while when I forget about it, but after an adjustment when my teeth are hurting again, I seem to start it up all over. Sometimes my tongue just feels too big for my mouth. Plus I get this weird clicking in my jaw, but I guess it's the odd things that go with having braces.
