Expanding vs Extraction?

#1 Post by mariyu »

Hi!! I've recently consulted two doctors for braces and was told different things.
The treatment plan by one was to expand my arch forward to bring my flat lips outward and align my crooked teeth, no extraction.
The other however said that it would be impossible to do what the first doctor said as my lower jaw bone is fixed and in order to create space to relieve the crowding of the bottom teeth, extraction is definitely needed. Moving the teeth forward without extraction may push the teeth out of the bone. So he can only move the teeth along the original condition (something along this line)

What is the truth in these plans? I would personally prefer the first doctor's plan for a better profile, but I definitely don't want to experience any negative effects...

Hi! It all depends how looks your profile and how crooked are your teeth. Extractions are not always the solution as they are not always a bad idea. I opted for extractions and I think that they were compulsory for my case. The convexity of the profile decides the pertinence of the extractions.
