Gum contouring

#1 Post by ReaJT »

Hello. I am wondering if anyone in the UK has any experience of gum contouring? I am going to ask my ortho about it as I think a reduction of the gums above my lateral incisors would help improve the appearance of my smile. Is this something my ortho or Dentist could perform or does it need a specialist? Could anyone who has had it done or researched it as part of their braces treatment let me know who did it and the rough cost please? If it’s going to be very expensive I can’t really justify it after spending over £3k on braces. Thank you!

Gum contouring is done either by your general dentist or the periodontist. It's not something that an orthodontist would do. As for the cost, I'm not sure how much it would cost in the UK, but it depends on what and how many teeth needs done. Perhaps you could just book a consultation with a cosmetic dentist or a periodontist and see how things go from there.

Thank you for your reply. I discussed this with my orthodontist today and he said I would need referred to a periodontist. He isn’t sure there is one in my area but suggested giving it a while after my braces come off and if I would like to discuss it with a periodontist then he will refer me on. :D
