9 months in. Almost done, or halfway...

#1 Post by ReaJT »

 Hello! Just wanted to share my progress and ask how you all think my teeth are looking?? 😊

I was originally told my treatment would be 15-18 months but we are at 9 months now and I am optimistic it’ll be closer to 15 😊 My ortho got me to get a chip fixed so we could accurately see the alignment of my front teeth without a chip throwing off the eye and the assistant mentioned I’d need it sorted before my retainers are made. I’m taking this as good news! I have a trip planned in Mid February and really really hope they are off by then 😬

Excuse the colour in the second pic, as you can tell I eat pretty much what I want with clear ligatures and a power chain 😂

Great progress! They do look straight to me. How is your bite though? I think how soon your treatment concludes will depend on not just how straight your teeth are but also how your bite is aligned.

Hello! My bite is getting there I think, wearing elastics nighttime only in a box shape and everything feels good. My bottom midline is slightly off but I don’t know if they are going to address this and I have an overbite and overjet which isn’t going to be sorted as I would have needed extractions which was a path I didn’t want to go down. Everything feels good tho!

Well I was in for my routine appointment today and to my surprise I am scheduled for debonding in three weeks! :D

My orthodontist isn’t going to be present as he is on holiday so I am getting debonded and fixed retainers attached, then a week later he is going to do some trimming on the edges and then three days later I pick up my Essex retainers. This was his plan so I know I shouldn’t question it but I’m a bit worried about going a week and a half without my Essex retainers..... Has anyone else had it done this way?

Wow..... your teeth look almost exactly like mine did at my start! You give me hope! I was told 18 to 24 months and I have a slight overbite which they are going to address. I am 2.5 months in now. Mine will probably take longer with overbite correction though. Congrats your teeth look amazing😀😀

Hi RealJT,
Impressive! If the ortho is on vaca for a week; what if they delay taking off for one week to wait for return? Would this cut the down time between de-bracing and obtaining retainers?

Also; I would want the ortho to have eyes on me one final time before the braces came off.Once they're off, they're off...

I’ve dropped him an email asking if it would be preferable to delay it for a week. I’ll let you guys know what he says :) Thank you!

So now the plan is debonding on the Monday, back to pick up Essixs on the Friday, back for shaping on the next Monday and new Essix retainers will be made if needed after this. Seems a bit silly to me...

However I emailed him today saying I’m really not sure because I think my right central incisor is too far forward/ the right lateral incisor is too far back. They keep reassuring me they are lined up but I just don’t think it looks like it. What do you guys think from the pictures?

Thanks so much!

I think I may have annoyed him... he’s emailed back telling me to cancel all my appointments and make a new one to discuss and make any adjustments. I feel bad because he had taken impressions for the bonded retainers and these may already be in production but I am paying £3.5k for this....

I think it's a good call on his part. You are clearly not happy with the results, so it will be very pointless to go ahead with all the debonding and retainers fitting appointment. Please tell your ortho upfront everything that you are not happy with your teeth so that he can address this or at least tell you what can or cannot be achieved so there are no surprises.
