Pushing teeth with tongue

#1 Post by alvinrow »

Feels like a somewhat silly idea, but was wondering if pushing teeth with your tongue can have an effect on speeding up movement. My upper front teeth are being moved forward, and I've found myself pushing them from behind with my tongue every now and then. Anyone have any idea if this can sort of help them along? Or is it pointless?

Yes the tongue can move your teeth I am about to go on second round of braces because of that. Never was an issue before.
The solutions are not very pleasant but I'd rather endure it than not being able to bite properly.
For instant Right I can't bite a pizza well, I cannot cut it completely when bitting usame with sandwiches I just drag the while ham instead od cutting it. This just an example.

My ortho wants to put a tongue crib in for a year, however she has reluctantly agreed to try tongue spurs if I want to. I haven't decided yet.

Seek an ortho consult and then him your concerns.

I will update my thread once I make the decision and start treatment.

Let us know how it goes

My most crooked tooth is a canine, and it got crooked from me pushing it all the time with my tongue! So yes I would definitely say that the tongue can make a difference. Just be careful you don't subconsciously push a perfectly good tooth out of place like me.

Yes it can...especially when your teeth are slightly loose from braces.
I wouldn't take the risk though.
