Sharp pain when biting and sore gum

#1 Post by joolietta »

Hi all,
I am still new to braces, got it fixed 3 weeks ago and had a relatively easy settling period in a first few days, then pain had eased and no pan for few weeks until recently when my bottom tooth become quite wobbly and since yesterday i experience quite sharp pain when biting on this tooth and the gum around the same tooth is sore to touch as well. Anyone experienced something similar? Is it normal? I spoke to my clinic over the phone, they assured it is the normal part of the process. Just wanted to know if many of brace wearers experience the same thing.
All thanks in advance.

Yep it's totally normal :) I was freaked out when it first happened to me, and I called and they told me the same thing. I've only had braces now for about 4 months, and it's happened to me a bunch. The worst part is when you get the wire removed to have your teeth cleaned nothing's holding your teeth in place so it feels a bit strange and takes some getting used to, but it's not nearly as bad as it sounds.

Yeah I had my bottom braces put on a little over a week ago and I have a lot of that pain as well. When I bite down the teeth in the back really seem to hurt. It seems worse in the morning, maybe it's the way they are at night. I am right there with you!

Yup I am right there with you. The first several days when I got the top on and then the next month when I had the top adjusted and the bottom on was definitely the worst comfort wise. Honestly, I really haven't had a day in the last 6 weeks where something didn't hurt. Every few days a set of different teeth ache. Guess it's the price for this journey :) Hope everything is going well with you.

Don't worry about! The pain and ache, and sometimes shaky teeth are very common.. And it occurs randomly!

No pain, no gain!
