Hi all,
I am new member and just had my partial(front six upper and lower) fixed metal braces for a week. Anyone else had partial treatments and how well did it go? I am in my late 30ies and have a mild overcrowding top and bottom jaws. thanks in advance:)

Re: Partial fixed metal braces
Hi joolietta,
I had partial braces on my top teeth only-Damon clear- initially on 6, then on 8 teeth. My orthodontist described it as a sectional appliance. She would not do a sectional appliance on my bottom teeth as well because it would leave me with an unsatisfactory bite. I was not prepared to shell out for full braces and my bottom teeth were not too bad, so I settled for just the upper sectional brace. i am very happy with the outcome. My treatment took rather longer than expected but I have no regrets.
Good luck with your treatment.
Jem

Hi Jem,
Thank you for you reply. It is reassuring, as I have recently read a lot mixed reviews about having partial treatments rather than full braces. It took so long for your upper arch though, mines are predicted for 12 months, will see how it goes.:)

Re: Partial fixed metal braces
Hi Ashleyy,
Yes 18 months was much longer than expected. It was a combination of length of treatment and cost which put me off having full braces. The sectional brace cost me 30% of the cost of full braces. If i had known my treatment was going to last that long, maybe I would somehow have found the extra money for full braces -or maybe I would not have had any treatment at all. It is hard to say now. After learning so much about orthodontics from this board i now realise that my bottom teeth are worse than I previously thought and that my bite is still less than perfect. And I also learned that having braces was not as bad as I expected. So if I had my time again I would probably go the full braces route. But having said that, I am still very pleased with the outcome i have had.
