Do you trust your orthodontist?

#1 Post by Welshrarebit »

Just interested in whether anyone else has ever doubted that their ortho/dentist knows what they're doing?

I am sure mine must - she's got all of the necessary qualifications and experience and yet STILL I find myself worrying that I'm not going to get the end result I want (straight teeth!) or that someone else could do it better/quicker.

Is this paranoia normal?!

Has anyone worried in the beginning and then been reassured as they start to see results? (I'm only 6 days in).

Thanks!

Absolutely!

I question my decision to go with this particular ortho every visit I am there. I think I'd have more confidence in her results if she was a better communicator. There were a bunch of reasons why I didn't go with others I consulted with (one moved, one retired). I feel like I'm on the right track but I won't know for sure about this until we're at the end! Part of my paranoia is that she doesn't really address my concerns in detail. It has been the biggest frustration in all of this. I've thought of changing many times but really wonder if I'll be better off anywhere else. It's an odd feeling. You are so early in the process, I hope you'll feel better once you start seeing results.

i trust him but i have deep fears. that the result won´t be the best possible, that i will end up with a messed bite. an open bite is my worst fear. i had my bottom premolars extracted and after 4 months my top. because of the teeth difference those months i got an overjet and also i could not bite with my front teeth, they just didn´t touch! it was so frustrating, but only last 2-months. now the bite gets better!
he only tells me that everything is fine, but i don't ask many questions too!

I like my current ortho and I trust him most of the time. He answers all my questions, but I had a very bad experience with my first ortho so I'm always second guessing the current. :(

I could not be more trusting and happy than i am with my orthodontist, im just bored and impatient that nothing at all seems to be happening
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

I like the guy, and he has a great reputation, but I didn't really "trust" him till i met his patients and saw the results of his work.

Which BTW is a timing thing, a lot has already happened and a lot still needs to be done, so i have no complaints about my orthodontist or his staff

I trust my ortho but like a lot of other people, sometimes I question my treatment. It's hard because they only see you maybe 5-10 minutes a month, whereas you're looking at your teeth all the time. How can it be possible to see every little detail in 5 minutes a month?! But I tell myself, that's his job and he's been doing it for 30+ years.

I think I do?

I mean, I really, really hope he is doing the right thing. I live in a small town and there weren't a lot of options and I looked at them all (only 3) and decided to go with the one that ended up being the most $ I mean there wasn't a HUGE difference in all 3 money-wise but when you are paying out of pocket every $ counts! Anyway, I went to his father as a child because that is who accepted my mom's insurance. Now his father is still there and both of his sons are orthodontists at the location. My coworker got braces as a teen there, and her teeth are fabulous AND they have really good reviews ... so ... fingers crossed.

What I didn't know was how good looking the brothers were when I went for my initial consult  8)

I do because I've seen his results with three of my kids, a few of my nieces and nephews, and tons of patient photos in the office and online. I admit I'm more nervous about myself because it's me! And I cNt see what he's doing to ask questions like I can sitting next to my kid in the chair. But he always answers my questions about my kids treatment, I just have to remember to ask about my own while I'm there!
Braces for 18 months/4 days.

I went to this ortho because I had family members treated there. But the couple of times that I've seen them..they all relapsed. So now I'm having doubts. Plus, my progress has stalled since December. Then my ortho moved and now have a new ortho. I hope she can progress my treatment.
