Weight loss

#1 Post by Metalgirl »

I have noticed weight loss since getting my braces, anyone else experiencing this. Can it be that food gets caught in the Braces?

I kinda doubt enough food is getting stuck in your braces but ive also had weight loss, i think its because braces make chewing anything a chore, which makes you slow down and eat less, it may also make you want to stick to a mostly liquid diet, which should mean your food will go through you quicker.

At least this is my perspective and experience
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

I lost, on average, a pound a month. Some months I lost two. Some months I didn't lose any. It was pretty slow.

I used to joke that I was losing weight because of all the food caught in my brackets. The truth is that my eating habits changed.

First, it was harder to chew, so I ate slower. Eating slower gives your stomach a chance to catch up and you feel full sooner. Second--and this is a big one--I stopped snacking between dinner and bed time. Those calories never get a chance to get burned off.

I lost 30 lbs in 4 months. Probably from sore teeth and not wanting to have to brush every time you eat.

Yes that's make sense, not eating as much because of all the work it is to clean my teeth after eating, also no more smacks

I lost a few pounds in the beginning, but I'm back to my orthodontic sins (3 years with braces) and the weight reappeared somehow :-+ .

I have lost weight just from the extractions haha. Hoping it continues when I get the braces on in a few days :)

I haven't lost any weight even with a gum graft! Hah! I was hoping to, and I did lose a little at first, but once I got used to everything I started to eat whatever I want. I think the braces have helped me not GAIN weight. I think if I didn't have braces I would absolutely have gained weight the past year. So, that's a big bonus.

I was hoping my gum graft would help me lose at least 10lb, but that definitely didn't happen! Oh well, so much for the easy way!
•Braces placed August 14, 2014
•Deband November 11, 2015
•Permanent retainer top and bottom
•Essix retainers top and bottom 16 hr/day for a year and then nightly afterwards.

I lost 8 lbs in two months. It's slowly coming back 7 months in. It was a combination of soreness, not wanting to brush my teeth, and not really knowing what was safe to eat anymore.

Yup. It sucks. I am continuing to lose weight. I am not complaining about it. But having braces, and being a foodie, really sucks. I basically am developing super horrible habits. Eating one huge meal a day and drinking 1 coffee slowly all day long to combat the fatigue.

I am going to start using shakeology or visalus meal replacement shakes as they are very nutritious. That way for breakfast and dinner I can get nutrients and only deal with the brushing flossing waterpicking proxabrushing mouth rinsing BS then.

Sorry for sound all down. I am on vacation and it is really starting to annoy me. It takes me like 15 minutes seriously to clean my mouth out. I think once my lower lingual holding arch gets removed things will be better. And when the TADs come out.

The funny thing is I was never able to bite into a sandwich. Now I can do that pretty darn well these days. But I am learning REALLY quickly what to eat.

Green onions are a huge annoyance. As is pineapple and celery. Basically fauxtatoes (califlower mashed) are my favorite thing. But there has been MANY a night where 4 scoops of prairie farms vanilla ice cream mixed with milk has been deliciously and slowly savored as there is no anticipatory anxiety about the CLEANUP afterwards! AGH!

Ok my blood sugar is low and I am in a bad mood. I need to go buy the shake mix NOW.

Have a good day kids.

Yes! I have but it hasn't been a good thing due to being a bit too skinny at the moment. I put it down to not wanting to eat as much because of the hassle of cleaning your teeth after every meal.

At first i used to eat everything.. and probably put weight on.. but after 7 months in and getting the thickest wires possible.. would hurt to bite down on a biscuit so definitely put me off snacking on junk food.. i actually lost a few kilos!
Had so many ulcers and huge cuts in my mouth from brackets rubbing gums.. definitely turned me off anything salty like chips, as it would sting and burn if you ate them!
