Are your second molars banded or bracketed?

#1 Post by Nozzelnut »

Just curious if your second molars are banded or bracketed?

Mine aren't currently; my ortho has given me a couple different answers when I ask about them. Ranging from we'll get them on later in treatment to they're staying where they are. The rear of both upper molars are rotated out about 15 degrees.

So just wondering if I should press the issue of getting them in line with the rest while I'm still in beginning-ish of treatment or he's telling the truth that it doesn't really matter....
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

There was this post recently: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... 13&t=48011

I got mine put on about 5 months into treatment. Honestly, if he's telling you it doesn't matter, I'd rather have mine off. They dig into my cheek constantly or get caught in my cheek when I'm eating. It's a PITA.

I have molar bands. I had 4 in originally for the first set of the second molars. Then I finally got the last bands put on that I needed later on. I'm not sure if it's the norm to get them on later in treatment. I actually would have preferred getting them on all at once just to get over the irritation at one time.
I completely agree with Jaime. They're a complete PITA! Lol. I feel like they're where I get the most irritation, not to mention the inside of cheeks will probably have a permanent indent from these things for years.

And I'm not looking forward to the day when I get debraced because getting molar bands taken off doesn't sound very pleasant...

But yeah, I would think though that they probably should be connected somehow, because how else is he going to move those teeth or prevent them from getting out of line?

I am 4.5 months in. My lower second molars still aren't bracketed. My top second molars were banded early on because I got a transpalatal bar to help develop the arch. There's still no word in getting the lower ones bracketed, but I trust my ortho's timing. It sounds like it's common to leave them out in the beginning.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll get a better answer next appointment. I'm paying a significant amount of money for this. Might as well get everything in the right spot.

3 months in seems too soon for me. But I'm not complaining. Any progression is good news for me. My second molars were sticking out of the arch so they need a lot of movement.

I'm in Damon Q's and had brackets placed on second molars from day 1 but now got the wire through to the back molar upper and lower at my first adjustment at 4 wks. Is that odd?

My uppers will be banded next appt. I'm 16 mos in. Ortho said they line up fast so he was never worried about them.

Second molars are bracketed first molars are banded.

It's super weird having braces that far back. My first time in braces they never did anything to those teeth!

I am 2 months in and just had brackets put on my 2nd molars. Only been 2 days, but man
are they digging into my cheek. Hoping this gets better soon, or I will have to buy stock in the wax company.

They'll dig into your cheeks at first, but they toughen up eventually. I didn't bother putting wax because I couldn't reach well, and the molars were too far out of the arch. So I put up with it until they no longer bothered me.
