Newbie Inman Aligner wearer!

#1 Post by LadyF »

Well, that was me fitted with my IA last night..... So far so good, I have one tooth at the front in the top overlapping the other which sits slightly inwards, so the aim is to push this one out first then work on the overlapping one to push it back in place.... I was a little disappointed when the dentist said she didnt think it would take too long and that it would be about 4-5 months.... I was hoping for round about 8 weeks reading other posts..... But hey ho.....

Can feel slight pressure but no pain as such, speech is horrendous, and constantly sucking away the saliva! Finding it a bit tricky to get it in and out but presume I will get used to this....

Is anyone else who thinks they have a similar 'front fang' issue able to give me their timescales to completion?

Many thanks!

I have a fang - always hated it! I've had my aligner for almost 3 weeks now and my dentist said around 4 months for completion. My front two teeth overlap, due to overcrowding, so the next ones along are all over the place, one sticks out, and the other has rotated. Initially they're working to push the front tooth forward, and rotate one. The fang is the last to be moved apparently, damn!

My speech is better than the first week, still dodgy but I am now brave enough to make phone calls with it in. The salivating does calm down thank god. It's a good job I don't mind people taking the piss out of me!!!

Hi Starnepus - sounds as though we have kind of a similar problem - and isn't it frustrating knowing the worst bit is the last to be corrected! That's really good to hear that your speech is getting better - sometimes I find it's not so bad, other times, incomprehensible and it's exhauuuuusting having to repeat myself over and over!..... I still haven't been brave enough to answer the phone with it in unless it's a number I know. I'm only just coming up for my first week though, so plenty time to get used to it!

I'm just back from the dentist. The composite blobs I have on the back of 2 of my teeth keep coming off. She's made them bigger, so now they feel MASSIVE!

Are you taking pics of your teeth as you go along? I took a photo of mine from underneath, they look a real mashed up mess so can't wait to see some
improvement :-)

Yes, I took pictures and plan to do so every week... I think I feel as though they are sitting slightly differently (the one that goes in more so, not the fang one) but then the pictures don't look any different - although I suppose it could be a millimetre at this point, hopefully when I'm back in a couple of weeks (3 weeks from the fitting appt) she will tell me that there is a difference and hopefully more filing will allow some quicker movement. Can't wait til it's adjusted to start working on the real problem of the fang!

My composite blob at the back doesn't feel that big actually, but the brace sits right along the middle, and I've read some people say it should sit as close to the bottom as possible to get more leverage to know. I guess you just have to put your trust in the dentist!

Good luck and keep updating!

At my 2 week review the nurse and dentist both said straight away the overlap of my front two teeth is better, I couldn't see it until they got the mould out of my teeth at the start!
It's very exciting :-)

That's brilliant! After only 2 weeks as well!

My first review is in 2 weeks time (3 wks from fitting) so fingers crossed I get told the same!

Yes, very exciting to be told it's working!!

It is but my teeth still looked mashed up, especially from underneath. I want to post a pic so you can see how enormous the composite is on the back of my teeth, I feel like a rabbit. I'll try and figure out how to do it.

Wow, just realised that bit is the composite blob that's sticking out! That IS big! Least it will hold your brace in place better...

i know, it's massive eh? I have one on the tooth the other side of my front tooth as well if you can see it. Your teeth look white too. You should take a pic from underneath, I didn't realise how mashed up my front teeth were until I did that, then i was so glad i had opted for the aligner.

Will be good to compare pics as we go along, I'm only about 2 1/2 weeks ahead of you, is that right? I had mine fitted on Wed 2 July. :D
