Whitening???
Hi all,
So I was told that my braces are coming off in 3 weeks. That's 5 months earlier than estimated on the beginning of my treatment!! I am really psyched. Can I get my teeth whitened the same day I get the braces off?

Re: Whitening???
That's wonderful news! Congratulations!
As for whitening I'm not sure. Reading the posts here it would seem that there is a bit of soreness/sensitivity after the process of removing braces so you may have to wait a few days to a week. I suppose it also depends on you and your threshold for pain. Good luck!

Well, you'll probably want to wait a little while until your bit "settles in" to your retainer; otherwise your bleaching trays might leak. And you'd have to ask your ortho if you can take out the retainer long enough to bleach; some orthos have patients wearing the retainer for all but eating.
Or, I suppose you could go with in-office whitening, which makes long-term tray fitment moot. But you'd certainly want to wait a few days for that, to give your teeth a chance to remineralize after the remaining cement is ground off.

Re: Whitening???
Personally, I would wait a few days before whitening your teeth. :)
Re: Whitening???
I've heard it's recommended to wait a few weeks after getting your braces off to whiten. Something having to do with the glue.

Congrats on getting deb raced 5 months early!
I've only had mine on 4 days and already looking forward to whitening mine... in 15 months and 3 weeks!!
Let us know how you get on, and what you choose to use to whiten

Re: Whitening???
Thanks everyone. I am thinking of doing in office whitening (zoom). I just rescheduled my cleaning appointment for right after my braces are off and I think after that I will whiten my teeth. That way I can ask the hygienist who is doing my cleaning if she can see any glue left on my teeth.
I am super excited and can't believe my braces are coming off 5 months earlier!!!!

I'm getting my braces off on Monday, and have already bought the very potent Crest white strips. I was planning on using them right away, but hmmm....think I better talk to the ortho!!

Re: Whitening???
I'm not 100% sure, but I had asked my dentist about whiting after I get my braes off. He told me that you get better results with the whitning trays from the dentist then the zoom whitening in office. Just an FYI

Everyone says something else. I was told that both give you the same results it's just that one gets you there faster than the other method.BracesChick wrote:I'm not 100% sure, but I had asked my dentist about whiting after I get my braes off.
