Plaque on brackets

#1 Post by fleur26 »

I have noticed a white build up around the brackets on my metal brace, :-( bottom teeth only and only the ones close together in the middle, the hygienist told me it was plaque but everything I try I can't seem to shift it between my cleanings. I guess I could do better with my interdental brush but I clean my teeth four times everyday, rinse with mouthwash, floss at night, and rinse with water every time I drink anything coloured. I guess I'm a bit obsessed but this morning I caught the side of the front brackets in the sunlight and I could see the plaque build up and it didnt look good!! Help!!!!

Sometimes even really good brushing with a regular brush, rinsing, etc wont shift the plaque. You need to use the interdental brush to get around and between the wires. I had a spring and no matter how careful I was that thing was a plaque trap. Thank goodness its gone now...just do your best cleaning!

I feel your pain fleur26, no matter how hard I try I find everything is getting caught in them. I totally empathize with the obsessive brushing. I', using corsodyl, salt water, tooth picks, floss and the interdental brush! ha ha has anyone noticed that corsodyl can tend to stain your teeth slightly?? ooo and also has anyone used the disclosing tablets? iv the six month smile braces and afraid that they will stain my brackets if i use them.

Cordsyl can stain teeth I found Listerine stained mine too. Aww it sounds like you try so hard! My hygienist says that when my braces come off it will be much better to clean and reassures me but i still panic daily!! How far are you into treatment?

I hate those disclosing tablets. I have clear braces (self ligating on top, ligatures on bottom) and they did turn mine pink. I managed to scrub most of it off by the following morning (after I chewed one I brushed 4 times and they were still pink a bit!) but the ligs stayed pink until the next night (and I know it wasn't from a lack of brushing). They won't stain permanently but be prepared for a pink hue for a bit.
