Quick Question

#1 Post by mkr1217 »

My bottom teeth are pretty crowded and will take a while to shift how they need to, but my top teeth will barely have to shift at all. I am considering 6 month braces. I am just curious if my top teeth straighten out faster than my bottom teeth(they would) will they remove the braces on them as soon as the problem is corrected, or will they stay on untill my bottom are finished shifting as well? This may not seem like a big deal, but for some reason I would be much more comfortable with it if I knew I could get the top ones removed asap. Thanks

I think it depends on your bite and how it all matches up, but I think it tends to work the other way around. You'll likely get the bottoms put on first and then the tops later.

I got my lowers put on before my uppers because they were the most work. But my lowers moved much quicker than expected so they're now ahead of schedule, which means I should get my lowers off 2 months before my uppers (fingers crossed!).

Talk to your ortho about it - but I think Tobilei is right - they usually try to sync it up so that you deband uppers and lowers together.

I'm sure something like that could be possible, but to get the bite right and keep it right until debracing day I would think it would be best to keep both arches braced until totally finished.

My lowers are pretty much finished, apart from some gaps that have reopened and I often get tempted to ask to have them removed when the gaps are closed while the uppers still need a tiny bit of work, but then remember the bite problems I've had recently so totally change my mind and want both arches braced until I'm completely finished.
Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower
Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months
Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces)
Retainers: Upper & lower essix and lower bonded
