Cheek chomping ... ouch!

#1 Post by gemini4 »

I am almost two weeks into my braces. For now just the tops are on; bottoms will go on in a month or two (my top front teeth need to make room for the bottom braces so they don't crash). My bottom molar bands are on, though, and though I chew very carefully and slowly, inevitably my cheek somehow gets in the way ... and it is oh so painful!

My ortho told me this will happen for a bit while my bite is out of alignment. I know I'm preaching to the choir. :?

It's amazing to me, though, how quickly the mouth heals! I have been using a rinse by G.U.M.'s Oragel brand specifically for mouth sores. Its main ingredient is peroxide. I also got some Rincinol through drugstore.com. Neither are instant miracle workers but they do help.

I had that same problem when I just had my top braces on! When both arches were on I didn't have that problem anymore after about a week of having both on.

I am 2 years in and I STILL do this occasionally. It is the worst when I am like really, really hungry and I just chew carelessly. Later in the day, O-M-G I am so cut up. It did happen more often in the beginning though.
