My Wonky Molars...

#1 Post by naijadiva »

I got my braces on June 3rd 2011 and extractions on August 11th 2011. Funny thing is I never noticed my molars were crooked until I went for my initial consultation and the Ortho pointed it out. I’ve been OBSESSED with them ever since! I looked everywhere on the www but did not find anything really helpful about correcting crooked/tipped in/rotated molars other than the post by Gennel here. One of the orthos said she hadn’t seen a case like mine in years, and one assistant said she had never seen anything like it.

Below are my progress pics:

Image

Top Left: 10.15.11 (Two Months after extraction of all four second bicuspids)
Top Right: 01.04.12 (When enough space to fit the archwires in my molars had been created)
Bottom Left: 03.14.12 (This is where the most progress was made)
Bottom Right: 03.27.12 (Most recent adjustment. I can see a slight change after only 2 days).

In closing the extraction gaps on the right, my tooth has kinda slanted into the extraction gap as opposed to moving straight across. I am scared that it might be difficult to correct this, and I have been unable to find any cases like this on the internet to allay my fears. I just have to trust that my ortho(s) know what they’re doing, I guess. :( ...

I'm pretty amazed at these photos.
Are your molar roots in the bone? It doesn't look like they could be given the angle...

Also, does your tongue have space?

Hi thanks for posting,

I am actually in the simillar boat, my bottom molars have tipped in somewhat during treatment. I have had a scan and im waiting to see what my ortho is going to do about it or how bad it is.

Im freaking out myself, he noticed it because the powerchain was not moving the molars at all.

Does your ortho have to do anything drastic to correct yours, no offence but they look like a tough case.

I am too... I'm glad I took pictures to chronicle the changes.

Not sure whether or not they are in the bone... I don't even know what that means, to be honest. :?.

I retracted my tongue when taking the pictures to capture the teeth better... So yes, they do have space.

I'm glad I could share... :D

It's refreshing seeing that I'm not the only one that has experienced this... Please give an update when you know how your Ortho will correct it.

I was actually the one that brought it to my Ortho's attention during my last adjustment. He just told the Assistant not to chain the tooth, and he told me the reason for it tipping might have been too much pressure placed on the tooth. He didn't seem too concerned about it and it appears he thinks the wire will upright it somehow... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi,

My next appointment is on the 11 th april so i will post you back and let you know how i go.

Still a bit aprehensive as to what the verdict will be but im hoping it will be nothing at all.

When i close my teeth together i can feel with my tongue that they dont touch as though the bottom is closer to my tongue and the top closer to me cheek. If you can get what im talking about.

Fingers crossed for wednesday
