How do I remove my braces DIY

#1 Post by teewoods »

I had braces in Dubai when I was working there but we all got fired and I had to leave. Any yes without 3 months -pay :x Neeldess to say I am broke as hell. I went for a consult to get new braces and the Ortho helpfully removed the wire but let the brackets on.

I rang a few Ortho's regarding removing them as I was quoted $800 + $150 consulting fee!! I mean come on!! So I am not going to pay $950 just to have some glued brackets on my teeth removed. Considering I am going to get them done next year I want to at least remove the front brackets so I can give me teeth the much deserved cleaning they need.

Any clues on removing glued brackets would be appreciated. :D

My boyfriend removed his with a simple pair of pliers. He said it was painless. The only issue was that the cement was still visible on his teeth, but his dentist was able to polish it off eventually.

Shop around... surely you should be able to find some dentist (you don't need an ortho for this) with a set of bracket removal tools to take them off for $100 or so...

If you can't find a cooperative dentist, and you have metal brackets, a pair of needlenose pliers squeezing the top and bottom pairs of tie wings towards each other should cause them to de-bond from the cement. You'll still need a dentist to grind the cement off eventually.

If you have ceramic brackets... I wouldn't try those on my own. They'd probably shatter and/or compromise your enamel.

I should have added this to my original response, but there are a bunch of videos on youtube that show you how to do it.

I agree. It seems like the damage that you could do could cost more to fix then just the cost to get them removed by a professional. I wouldn't risk it.
