I should post some of their lab reports thi year:). They all made hypothesis that the Coca-Cola would cause more loss of mass than the other drinks based on acid content and what their parents had told them battery acid and coke. We studied the teeth for two months. Each week the tooth was weighed, recorded, and photographed and places in a new cup of what ever liquid it came from. In the end, all of the teeth lost some mass. The MD and CC lost the same amount weeks 1-5 but then the MD took the lead. Each year (I've done this for five years now) the results are fairly consistent. One of my students this year asked the first day of class when we were going to "rot the teeth". It was the only reason she chose my class :).
PS- none of the teeth have ever "rotted". In fact, had we not weighed them,it would have been hard to discern any change at all.

My reason for keeping my wires and brackets? I wanted to have a good look at the instruments of torture that were part of my mouth for 18 months. Fascinating. But I have not only the arch wires, but also the brackets still strung on the arch wires. Not interesting to some, but it's interesting to me. While I sat in the chair during my appointments, I also scanned the tools on the tray. I also read up on topics of orthodontics that concerned me as well. All in an attempt to understand how things work. Some people like to know how things work and some don't. I like to educate myself.
After all, if I didn't ask for these things, they would go into the garbage can and I would never have a chance to look at them or see how they work.
