You can have bonded retainers removed, I know a few people who had them in their late teens who had them removed years later, or didn't replace them when they broke (again a few years later).
My ortho said that I have to have bonded retainers for at least a year, after that I can see how I feel, but she recommends having them on as long as I am ok with them.
I would definitely follow up with the crooked tooth. After I got my first set of braces off, I had a slightly crooked lower tooth. Years later, several of my lower teeth were very crooked. I'm getting a permanent retainer after this round of braces.
