Crozats are nothing new.
The same thing can be done with lots of different appliances, many of which are easier to use.
When a case should be treated non-extraction then extractions are not the right thing to do
When a case should be treated extraction then notextracting is not the right thing to do
It comes down to proper diagnosis and treatment planning.

I should have done the same thing Gracey82 did. Settle for non extraction. I still had constricted arches when my teeth were pulled. The original doc was going to retract my teeth all the way. I would not have enough room in my mouth for my tongue. I still don't. My face thinned out so much that my glasses slip down now, that never happened before. I have lines around my mouth that are horrible, and my cheeks fell somewhat. I have been to dr after dr only to hear this weight loss BS. I never lost weight, period. I found a pic of myself when I weighed 110 pounds and even then, my face was rounder. This whole thing has been really upsetting and I don't know what to do about it, to bring my face back to what it was. That orthodontist was very uncaring. Yeah I had a bi-max but it wasnt to the point where I could not close my lips, or that my face was protruding. When I politely asked him at my last appt. with him if he could move my back teeth forward a bit he dismissed me as a patient telling me "I don't have experience with that". Then why did he have the teeth pulled in the first place? He should have told me in the beginning, it would have saved me my face, alot of money, and pain.
I'm sure Dr RIck is right, when extraction is absolutely need, its the right thing to do and vice versa.
But, the only problem is, I just find that modern orthodontic focus primarily on getting straight teeth for patients, and for that to happen, extractions is opted to achieve the results.
Wherearea non conventional orthodontic / orthopedics or however it's called, they focus on finding solutions for patients who want to avoid extractions/surgery to achieve straight teeth.
Unfortunately, there is no such orthodontic practice that focus on that area in Singapore/Asia.

I guess what I'm tryin to say is, to solve a Question A, Answer D is not the only way to go forward. Answer A, B, C or combination of all can also be the answer for it. Answer D might be a shortcut for straight teeth, but maybe A, B or C can save your 4 teeth. I just think patients should be given lots more alternatives/options or at least tried to, to achieve straight teeth, other than extractions. Just because it's normally how its done or 90% of the people done it, doesnt mean that's the ONLY way right?
