Can a TAD be placed without full braces?

#1 Post by NKovaci88 »

Don't know if this has been asked before, but...can a TAD be placed to try and upright a molar WITHOUT a full set of braces?

My ortho has been trying to close a first molar extraction gap by pulling the second molar forward, however, I'm not very pleased with how it's progressing. The crown has tipped over, but the root is still way back.

My teeth are otherwise where they need to be, so would it be possible to get my braces removed and just work on uprighting the second molar with a TAD?

If you are trying to upright a molar by tipping the crown back and leaving the root in place then yes it can be done w/out braces.

Theroetically you could move the roots forward with just a tad and a band (with an extended arm) but it might be best to have braces on to help with additional leveling, space closure, etc as that tooth would ultimately be touching the 2nd premolar
