polish between teeth

#1 Post by adultbraces »

My orthdontist 'polished' between my teeth with something like a sandpaper between my teeth. She went ahead and did that for about 4 spaces between teeths, and one of them she grind it down hard and my head moved into direction she was going back and forth.  And then she put regular flossing over the spaces and said it is better and she's doing that to make the teeth to move into where she wants. I mean the spaces were big enough for floss to go in/out from the begining and I can't tell the different. Has anyone done this?

When I asked her about if it would wear out the enamel, she replied it's just like polishing your nails. (but nail grows out!!) Doe anyone know the difference between polishing and filing down teeth?

IPR is normal, I've had this done on several teeth, but it's too bad that she didn't explain it to you.

I can see it being quite scary for someone who isn't expecting it and has no idea what's going on!

Do a search on IPR on here, and you will learn all about it.

You def had IPR (InterPeriodontal Reduction) done. I had it done to 6 teeth to make room for rotation and reduce the "black triangle" between my two upper incisors. If you do a little research on the internet, you'll find that the process can be done on all teeth, to a different extent, depending on what tooth the orthodontist is doing it to. If the orthodontist knows what they are doing, they don't go beyond the enamel layer on the tooth.
Hope that helps!

i didn't have any black triangle shown in the 4 spaces (upper teeth) already. Was she predicting that I'll have black triangles within next 5 week?

As for the bottom teeth, I do have a huge black triangle, this space is huge enough to view my tongue through the hole. And she did not do anything about it yet.
