question about midline

#1 Post by mygrill »

a couple of adjustments ago power chains were put on my lower incisors and canines to close the gaps between them. So, now it is closed and a "holder" is in place while my molars are moved towards my canines/incisors (I will need one molar dental implant). I told my ortho assistant that I was worried that my upper and lower midline does not match. I mean it may not be a very big deal, but, I feel since I am going through this process already, that we might as well move things where they should be - plus it is very noticable that my upper/lower midline does not match.

The ortho assistant told me that matching the upper and lower midline is something that is easily done. She called it "one of the fine tunings" at the end of the treatment. I just don't want to prolong the treatment because my midline is off and then we have to re-move the bottom teeth just to match the uppers.

I mean shouldn't we match them now before teeth are "held" in place?

Please shed some light on this topic....thank you guys in advance!

They usually reserve that at the end. I'm in the final stages of my treatment and they are just now working on my midline.

I have the most awkward rubberband configuration. It goes from my bottom left canine to my top right canine. But I only have to wear it at night when I go to sleep. It's impossible to talk with that config ... and it HURTS! Hehe

Thank you for the response you guys. I will ask my ortho next time i go which is coming up soon - less than two weeks. Just when I am getting comfortable with this adjustment it is time for another one!
