I'm only wearing elastics at night....

#1 Post by holyjoe »

At my last appointment, my ortho told me that they are going to deband me at my next appointment, here in about 3 weeks. The past 6 months I have been wearing different elastic configurations 24 hours a day. Now I am only wearing 2 elastics, both in a triangle shape attached to my top canine and bottom canine and bottom premolar. However, he told me that I only have to wear them at night. Now, I've always been told to wear my elastics ALL the time, or else my bite will move back to its original position...so how will wearing them only at night help? Won't my bite move back during the daytime while I'm not wearing the elastics? Thanks for any input!

You've probably reached a point where night time wear is sufficient for your purposes. If in doubt, give your ortho a call to discuss.

only at night & im comin near to getting my braces off too (oct or nov).
Since both of our orthos said it..it must be okay.

What I find interesting is that my midline will shift about 1mm after not wearing the elastics throughout the day..but then in the morning, it's perfectly aligned again. Good thing I'm set to be debanded in the morning then, I guess?
