Anyone else as boring as me? :P

#1 Post by elektro »

Just today I was talking to a friend who got braces about a month or so after me (I think I might have inspired him :P) Anyway, he showed me how he had just got a crazy new elastic configuration, and it was pretty crazy indeed - triangle shapes stretching from the front to the back of his mouth :o He also had spacers in before getting his braces, something I didn't have to get.

Anyway, this leads me to the topic. I guess I've had a pretty boring braces ride :p I never had spacers, a palate expander, bite plate, springs, or anything like that. Apart from one set of elastics that I wore for about 3 weeks right after my first adjustment (and even then, it was only in two simple "o" shapes, no triangles or tricky configurations :p) I've only had new powerchains. I don't think I've even had my archwire changed since about my third ajustment, and I'm about to have my 9th, in two weeks time.

I guess I'm lucky that I never had to deal with spacers, bite plates, bite turbos, etc - but then again there's probaby people who've had an even more boring braces journey than me :p So, anyone else here had a relatively straightforward time with braces?

Yeah, my first time round was pretty uneventful. Well, after i'd had all the teeth out etc :D

I had spacers but they didn't hurt (as far as I remember - and I generally remember pain :D ) and didn't even have any elastics!
Second time in braces!

I have had a time with my braces and right now, I am avoiding the call to the ortho --- as I know I need to get back in and have something adjusted because I can't chew again.

Consider yourself fortunate. I haven't had lots of the "toys" per say, but I have already had the springs and some fun with elastics and a purple powerchain and bite turbos in two different locations (they have been sanded off and put on a couple times too). My bite has messed with my headaches quite a bit, so when I get a migraine that won't go away --- off I trot back to the ortho for an adjustment of some sort!

I have been seen 13times in 8months and my adjustments are 10weeks apart, but I have not broken anything!

Same - I didn't have anything more exciting than power chains and a posted wire once. The ortho thought I might need elastics at one point but ended up not having to do them after all.

Same here, hence my infrequent posts on here! Spacers, brace, 3 adjustments, 1 new wire, 1 powerchain. That's my story. Long may it continue :)

Pretty basic stuff here, too. I'd say the most complicated thing I've had is molar bands. I haven't even had a powerchain.
