Slanted

#1 Post by sean83 »

Well, my teeth are making good progress, but as they shift I notice that my upper incisors are slanted - they are higher on the left than on the right! Is that something that will even out during treatment? I'd hate to end up with nice, straight slanted teeth :o

Is the slant something that was caused by natural wear of previously crooked teeth? I have one tooth that was sticking forward and sideways, and after 30 years of chewing had an entire corner ground down... I never even noticed until my teeth were straightened that the entire corner was gone!

Perhaps if that is the case, your ortho may be able to adjust and shape your teeth to make the edges as straight as possible. It may not always be possible to fix the problem with shaping alone, veneers or other dental work may be needed.

Perhaps the tooth is slanted simply because other teeth are being moved in an opposite direction and have forced it into that position?~ all part of getting all teeth into alignment and for the greater good. :0)

Your best option is to ask your ortho specifically about that, and how she/he plans to proceed with your treatment.

Hi,

Is it an individual tooth which slants or a gradual slope of your teeth as a whole?

Slanting teeth is one of the reasons I have braces. Due to an accident and a previous rubbish dentist making crowns which are too big and not level my top teeth have a gradual slope from left to right. If you imagine a nice straight ruler then tip it slightly upwards you get the idea. When I smile my top teeth on the left are lower than those on the right hence I have a wonky smile.

This sloping was one of my major concerns when I visited my ortho. He said that it was easy to solve as the higher teeth can be moved downwards. It has not happened yet as I have not been braced all that long. I have had to sort out the overcrowding first but now my teeth are alingned apparently on my next visit we can start closing extractions gaps and moving individual teeth. My sentence was 18 months

Hey, thanks for the replies. It's not an individual tooth, more that those on the left look higher overall. Given the state I started in, it's not a major concern...if they can straighten them I'm sure they can un-slant them! I'll mention it next visit. :)
