Should it hurt this much at this point??

#1 Post by bracesonfebruaryfirst2008 »

So I've been braced for 53 days. I had my first adjustment a few weeks ago and it was AWFUL. I expected to be sore for a few days after the adjustment, but even now 3 weeks later I am still in a lot of pain. I wake up everyday with a new tooth hurting...yesterday it was my top left canine, today its my bottom left teeth. The real problem now though is that the back of my top first incisor (on the right side) is hitting the bracket on the front of the tooth directly below it on the bottom (haha...does that make sense???) Anyway, that bottom tooth is REALLY hurting now because of the constant knocking. I guess it's because my teeth are moving into positions they haven't been in before....but if thats the case, will this problem persist for the rest of my time in braces? Has anybody experienced the same thing? Is there any relief?!?! My teeth hurt so much I've just been miserable the past few days :(

When I bite down my left canine hits the bracket on the tooth below it. I haven't even had my first adjustment yet, but that bottom tooth was very sensitive and sore for the first week and a half during which I took painkillers 2x daily. I can't imagine enduring that feeling for 3 weeks. You should probably call your ortho and ask about that.

My canine still hits the bracket below but I don't feel it anymore.

I'd call the ortho's office about this - just to make sure that the constant knocking won't cause damage to either of your teeth. There may be a way to add some sort of buffer to keep your tooth from hitting the lower bracket.

Hey guys thanks for the tips :D I think i will contact him...the only reason I haven't so far is that I'm kind of afraid of him! I'm REALLY regretting now not getting my braces from an ortho. I got them from my regular family dentist and I'm starting to hate the guy :? He doesn't give me time to ask questions....he just scurries into his office right after the appointment. And he thinks at 23 that I'm too old to choose my elastic colors! Okay now I'm just complaining about different things haha...I will give him a call :)
