Unrelated pain...

#1 Post by sean83 »

I was slightly concerned yesterday when I felt pain around a wisdom tooth, two whole teeth away from any of my metalwork. Since then the gum has swollen and the pain continues! However, it may not be totally unrelated to my braces...I read that particles of food trapped in the gum can cause this swelling, and braces have caused me to chew much further back! Anyway, have others experienced this and can I expect it to subside? The last thing I want is more extractions

it's a possibilty that some food got stuck down there which can cause some swelling, have your wisdoms already erupted? Are they partially erupted?

That's what I'm thinking. The one in question is partially erupted, but the rest are fine.

I have the same issue, and after about a month it has calmed down. I did however go and have a flouride treatment put on it to help it a bit. But i have noticed that as I got more used to the braces the less the pain was and now I don't even notice it anymore.

Thanks for the replies (good link!). I'm pleased to report a vast improvement since writing, which may or may not be due to some strong mouthwash!
