Has anyone else had a prolonged infection

#1 Post by martinboyce »

its been nearly 2 weeks since extraction, 5 days since i had antiseptic gauze inthe socket and nearly finished my antibiotics and still have horrible jaw ache.

Has anyone else suffered from this or will i be out on a limb all by myself again :(

What's the dentist said about it all, is s/he gonna give you some more antibiotics or some stronger ones?

awww! I hope the later hurdles are going to be relatively little ones compared to this one, they should be! Like these infections are Everest and K2 and to come you just have a couple of Alps and maybe a paltry Ben Nevis or two :D

Hi Martin, not by yourself but most people have the premolars/bicuspids out rather than the molars like us. I have to say, that I had my top molars out a week before christmas and it was waaay into the new year before they felt better, so you may have to hang on in there for a bit but then all of a sudden they feel loads better. Honestly, like elphi says, this is the worst bit for you. I think that the horrible extractions/infection experience will make you much more resiliant and the braces will feel like a doddle in comparison. Yeah, braces are uncomfortable, sometimes nick your cheeks, get food stuck in them but its really nothing compared to what you have had so far, so it will be a walk in the park - I'll bet you a fiver! k?

I stuck a mirror in my mouth the other day to look at the extraction sites at the top and they are still not fully healed but they dont hurt and I can eat on them, so dont worry even when they do feel better that they are not healing. Big teeth leave big holes to heal! I had the bicuspids out on the bottom and they were fully healed within like 3 weeks, so there is no comparison.

I also posted somewhere else that already my top teeth/premolars are already drifting back into the molar gaps and I have only been braced since Jan 3rd. The archwire is poking out the back by about 2mm - which is 20% of the gap and the ortho isnt working on gap closing. So, you probably wont have those big gaps for long!! Again, here your initial troubles will put you in good stead - the pokey out wire is a plus for me as my desire to close the gaps is bigger than my desire to be entirely pain free so the nicks on my cheek from the wire are outweighed by my joy that the gaps are closing!!

Hope all is well after the bus incident

Martinboyce, HANG IN THERE!!!!!!!

What helped me heal lots was warm water rinses with SALT. Try these 2 or 3 times a day.

Britlaw is right and very encouraging.

You survived the quake and the bus, you can do this! :D :-#)

Hi Martin, hope you're feeling better now!

No, you're not alone. I also had molars out and had problems for quite a long time. I had infection, but also there were several broken tooth fragments hanging around for quite a long time, which were absolute agony. In the end they had to cut the gum open, deal with it, and stitch it back up again. Sounds terrible, but was instant relief.

Anyhow, my message to you is to get back in touch with your doc and let him have a look as it may not be just an infection.

Hope you're feeling much better soon. :D

Hey martin

ive had an infection in an extraction site that wouldnt heal up too  so your not alone. :D Id definately get it checked out tho, as i was very unlucky and it spread to my jaw bone causing all sorts of problems. (not trying to freak you out, just always better you get these things checked)

Know exactly what you mean about being unlucky with stuff like this, i am too :? ive just had my jaw op and seem to be encountering every complication going  but hang in there, itll all be worth it in the end. :D
