when i got my braces done, about 2 years ago, I didn't really have the option of having self ligating brackets, I had clarity brackets on with standard elastic ligatures.
my treatment took about 20 months, I suspect that if the brackets were a lot looser and 'self-ligating' the treatment would have been a lot shorter.
And I wouldn't have had to deal with staining ligs.
I'm just curious, to all the new people on braces, do you have the elastic ligatures, or are you on dameon style self-legating brackets, that basically lock-in the wire by itself.

I am going to be getting the InOvation Ceramic & Metal braces this month. From my research they shorten the total treatment time with less adjustments (whoo hoo!). They are also smaller and more comfortable than the normal self ligating type. I do not know for sure but that is what the web site is claiming, I will be sure to keep a post update on when I get them...only time will truly tell!

I'll be getting Damon brackets when I'm braced in 10 days (gulp!).
My ortho is really excited about them. And THIS ARTICLE on ArchWired is pretty promising.
I'm taking all the company's claims with a grain of salt. (Or would that be a warm salt-water rinse?
)
BUT I've also read over a lot of the journal articles that do seem to say there is something to the self-ligating idea. And my ortho's confidence/experiences with Damons plus the fact that he's also planning it with OrthoCAD gives me hope that I may actually get out sooner than I would in regular brackets.
Every case is different, and as bracedintx pointed out, it may still go over. I'll take it as it comes. The end result will still be straight teeth and a better bite.

When I was braced 3 years ago, I got Damon 3's. The only bracket my ortho uses. I liked them!
My treatment was predicted to be 18-24 months and I had them for 21 months.
Not sure if it was 3 months shorter or 3 months longer!!
I did like the fact that I didn't have ligs that stained and that my wire changes were about 3-5 minutes long.
