I'm new to the boards. I started my orthodontic treatment this past Thursday. My orthodontist has put elastics on some of my back upper and lower teeth to get things started. I'm finding it very painful to chew! Does it take long for this to go away? It's been a couple of days already.
I also have a single bracket in place since we will be working on moving one tooth first that is seriously out of alignment, then doing the rest. The bracket keeps hitting my lip so I've been putting dental orthodontic wax on it. Does it hurt to use this too often?
I found chewing uncomfortable for the 1st couple of weeks . I thought everything was going to settle a lot quicker but it did not not. I still have discomfort chewing various meats. Some days are better than others. If I wake and have little discomfort I have a chewy food day! If it is sore then it back to soup and mashed potato!
I bought a slow cooker prior to being braced and its been great. Load it up before work come home and you have a nice healthy hot meal - the meat is always really tender, even on a painfull day I can still eat it. If you put in lots of veg as well then you are still getting all the nutrients your body needs (mind you I still have to spend about 15 minutes picking it out of the brace again afterwards )
Thanks everyone!
I felt a little bit better today. I've been sticking to softer foods which are easier to chew and that seems to be helping. Thank goodness for dental wax is all I can say. The sore in my mouth is just about healed. I worry if I will need to keep a full mouth of this wax stuff once I get the rest of my brackets on. I sure hope not.
