As for pain, I had braces thirty years ago. It's much nicer now. As for looks, today mine were switched to metal from ceramic. I can't really tell that much difference. If your ortho suggests metal, I'd go with metal.

Mike
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY ...............man am I in pain.

Got my braces on today and lets see..... my head hurts, my teeth hurt, I swear the inside of my mouth is raw... and I now sit here with a stick of wax on the braces wishing the pain will go away.

I had soup for dinner and then spoiled myself to a milkshake to try and "freeze" the pain.... no such luck.

I am taking an advil every hour and I even tried to floss which ha.... thats a big fat JOKE

I did salt rinses drank so much water I thought I was going to blow up.....

How long will I feel like this??? Any advise would be great

Pooh, I was like you, I felt the pain, I took the rest of the day off of work and went home and took a codeine, the next day I switched to a Vicodin. I didn't want to chew for a couple weeks, but once I got my teeth into the hang of things, the pain has subsided and I can go eat anything right after my adjustments. Except when I got powerchains and o-rings on top of the chains. That was the one day I thought my teeth were really going to fall out of my head. Now, all is better I'm back to eating my pita chips and tortilla chips. I've come to realize that my teeth had nothing to gain from not using them to chew. Aside from that, WELCOME to the club, hope your teeth feel better soon!

Oh no, poor thing METALMOUTHPOOH. Im sorry your feeling pain at the moment.

I was braced same day as yourself and seem to be ok so far. Hopefully you will feel better today as your teeth and mouth get used to it.

I got the full metal mouth as well

I feel a bit stupid! But slowly getting used to them.

I stocked up on heaps of wax yesterday and i keep expecting some major pain to happen...but...not yet! I havent attempted to floss yet though, they are too tender for that just now.

One of my molar brackets has broken off already (lucky me!!) so off to the ortho again today.

Here's hoping you will feel heaps better soon :D

Thats cool we need to stay in contact since we are now :brace buddies:

I am trying to get use to them as well since I really wanted clear over metal but my ortho told me to get the metal.... so it was different going to work today having everyone come to my office to see them....

I ended up closing the door and putting the phone on "meeting".

At one point I almost fell alseep hoping the pain would go away. Do u plan on posting any before and afters?

I do just trying to get my camera to work right its not focusing....

I hope it gets better I love this site from what I read I am looking at 1 to 3 weeks the I should be good to go!

Sorry to hear that you were treated like a circus show. Maybe you've inspired others to take charge and do something better for themselves too. Oh yeah, the whistling sound goes away... The spit thing when talking, it'll always catch you off guard. If you haven't had the spit thing yet, it will come when you least expect it. Hope you survived your first night!

Oh, you poor thing. Everyone's given all the other advice for pain relief, but in terms of making your mouth feel better, what I did when I first got them on (and I wasn't around people) was blow out my cheeks- like the way you do when you get a 2 year old to slap your cheeks and then your mouth explodes- know what I mean? That would give my cheeks a few moments of delicious non-pain because they weren't touching my braces.
