Braces soon!! Crossbite?

#1 Post by dustin01 »

Hey everyone. I posted a while back about Nashville orthodontist and thanks for the replys. I have my first consult with the ortho on Tuesday morning. My general dentist says I have a crossbite. Looking at the trends here it looks like all crossbites get an expander. Anybody know what options there are for an adult (well 26) to avoid an expander. I'm in the airline business and talk to the customers alot so I can't imagine having a lisp or something. I've got one consult on Tuesday and another one is a couple weeks so I'll keep you updated.

I also had a crossbite on one side. It was corrected using elastics. My ortho said that the crossbite wasn't skeletal, more of slanting teeth. Of course everyone's teeth and ortho are different so your case could certainly be different.

Good Luck!

Major crossbite here too! Mine was corrected with the use of a very strong elastic worn around my tooth for months and molar build ups to allow it to move without touching the rest of my teeth. I was told that there would be no upper expander for me! However, I do have a lower expander but that's to fix a molar out of alignment. Good luck to you.

I have a crossbite too, but I didnt need an expander. I will have elastics put on in about a year (estimate) to correct it. You may or may not get an expander, you can ask at your consult if your ortho doesn't tell you first.

Good luck with your braces!

I have a crossbite too, and I didn't have an expander. Mine is being corrected by moving the teeth behind the crossbite backwards to make space. In 4 months the crossbite has gone on one side and almost gone on the other side.

I have a crossbite also, but my treatment plan requires 1 lower bicuspid to be extracted and some slendering of another. My arches are perfect as far as the "u" form, but inorder to shift my teeth to the proper alignment, then I will have a tooth extracted. My OS said during the initial consultation that extraction was a possibility, but he was going to try an expander first inorder to save the tooth. But once he had my molds and xrays and was able to determine my treatment plan, an expander would have changed my profile and face and he didnt see a need to do that.

I have a cross-bite on my right side and I needed expanders but my scenario might be totally different from yours because I'm still 15 and my palate suture thing hasn't fused yet. Good luck for your consult!!

Update

#9 Post by dustin01 »

So I had my consult this morning. The ortho is saying 1 year (maybe even less) in braces and a nightguard after treatment. He indicated a slight overbite and a slight crossbite on the right molar. We did impressions and now I've just got to get my wisdom teeth removed. Total cost for the entire treatment $3850. Is that sounding close to what other people with one year is braces is paying?

That sounds about right Dustin. But prices vary from place to place.

Braces soon...Update

One more thing. That will be using the clarity clear brackets on the front six. I'm not sure what will be used on the bottom but they did look fairly small on the model.
