cleats

#16 Post by skyclad »

I talked to two people today and one has traditional metal and one has damon and they both have cleats on their molar bands and neither one had them clipped off, one had them bent in and the other claims that they dont bother her. Just thought I would share.

Hey guys,

I just had my molar bands placed on, one top one bottom. They also attached a small rubber band from the bottom to the top molar in hopes to straighten them upward since they are tipped. One problem though, yes I am a little sore from the side poking me but I can deal with that. What I can't seem to deal with is I tried eating today...and it took me like 10x the amount of time! It seems like the bands are touching when I'm trying to chew and I can't seem to eat right. Has this happened to anyone? I am SOOOO hungry right now and I'm not used to not eating that much! I don't see how this will get better because no matter what I do I can't bite down so that all my teeth touch :(

Hi! I will be putting on molar bands too! I'm worried about the spacers because I heard they hurts. I'm just wondering... my lower last molars are both close to the gums, its like really stick to the gums, how is spacers going to separate the molars and the gums so that the band can be put on? Did anyone have a problem like that? I guess its going to hurt very much since the band is so close, and will be rubbing against my gums!!! :(

When I first got my molar bands, they would touch each other when I tried to chew as bluesky described. After about a week this quit happening and they haven't touched since. During the banding appointment, I mentioned to the ortho that this was happening and he replied something to the effect that he's placing the bands in a manner to move the teeth to where they need to be and that initially they might touch, but that once the teeth start moving, they wouldn't touch. He was right.

Hi! I'm going to get bands too because my ortho mentioned spacers :( Due to get them on the 19th May. Long and dreary wait...
My concern is, my 2 lower back molars are so close to the gums, its like stuck to them. How is the ortho going to separate my molars from the gums? I expect a lot of pain when the bands go on too because its so near to the gum at the back! :( Anybody have this kind of problem? Will the spacers be put between my back molars and the gums?

Hi Meryaten, sorry I double posted because a "Failed sending email" sign kept coming up after I clicked send.

Yup I mean the back molars (I removed my wisdoms so I guess these are the second molars) are very close to my gums. I hope they will not be banded! Otherwise it'll be really difficult to brush back there! Fingers crossed...

Moderators: Can you help delete the previous one I sent? I sent it because I thought the ones I sent earlier did not appear here

Thanks for the info Second Timer. I really hope that is the case with me too. Today my molars hurt sooo much...I guess from trying to chew my food so much they are extremely sore. The only thing I was able to eat...or should I say drink was soup  I really hope it takes a week for me too cause I can't go w/out eating real food for longer than that. It's hard for me to understand how a tiny rubber band can move my tooth that much considering they are pretty tipped...but I'll have faith!

Oh, Thanks for the explanantion KK!

Meryaten, I mean my lower second molars have the back side of the crown covered by the gums... as in, I can't floss the back because unlike my upper second molars, both have the back of the crown covered totally by the gums. Only 3 sides of the crown of my second molar are exposed. Hmm not sure u can picture what I mean. I'll let u guys know what my ortho says during my next visit (mold and x-ray). :)

mbarbi,
i`ve been wearing my molar bands for 3 months already and had no complains at all about it, and i also have TPA( tran-palatal arch) so that my molars can`t change their position. I had no pain at all at no moment, well, except the moment they were fitting it in, they push it so hard and tell you to bite it hard so that it can be fitted, it seemed like my molars were going to crack..
Since then , i can tell you, my speech problems disappeared in 1-2 weeks and i also began to eat normally what you can`t do first day you have it on. But if you don`t get an arch, you shouldn`t have this problem.
