Feel like whining...

#1 Post by bracesmom »

When I got braces on (10-31-05) I was excited and optamistic. Having braces was admittedly fun as I felt younger etc... They're not fun anymore! I'm so tired of wearing them and can't wait to get them off! If my teeth show no movement I should get them off in about 10 weeks (which feels like forever  ). Anyway, I ought to be thankful to hopefully get them off before my dh and my 10th anniversary and my 30th birthday :) .

I'm just scared once they come off I wont be happy with my teeth or they'll move back. Just needed to vent here. I know I'm likely not the only one who's felt this way (enjoyed the braces and now want them gone!).

 I'm sorry BM, I'm not laughing at you or your post but I seriously just posted nearly the exact same feelings in my post "Pop..pop..pop", and I'm only about 3 weeks into braces! Here's to both of us getting more positive outlooks :)

And, a giant "ME TOO" from me.

My braces went on 10/26/2005 and my prognosis was 18 months, so I really, really want them off. The process hasn't been bad, but I'm just tired of it now. There's a hamburger with my name on it out there and I can't wait to bite into it.

P.S. I celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary earlier this year. With braces.

Don't feel bad I just got my braces 3/28/07 and I'm getting married on 8/25/07! I really don't mind though, I figure by that time comes I'll forget I have braces in my mouth. As of right now, sometimes I just want to pull them out!

bracesmom I totally understand how you feel! I was braced 5/19/06 with an estimated treatment time of 18 - 22 months. My ortho recently told me we might be removing my top braces on my next adjustment (April 30). I'm ESTATIC that they might be coming off so soon, but there is still some anxiety about it. I'm having the same thoughts as you; what if I don't like my smile when they come off? What if they move back? WHAT IF THEY HAVE TO BE PUT BACK ON???? Ugh. I really think by telling me they might be coming off soon it's caused more anxiety than me just thinking they will be on for another 8 months!

And just to be clear, I'm not looking for sympathy from anyone here! No, "poor me, I'm stressed because I might have me braces off early, boo hoo!" Yeah right! But bracesmom, you aren't the only one with those thought running through your mind!

I'm only into my treatment 1 month and feel the same way. Get these things off of me. I keep waiting for the " don't even realize they are there " feeling. Every time I think i'm used to them they give me a little reminder.

As far as them moving around after braces are off, I guess thats what retainers are for, as long as we wear them we should be ok. A friend of mine has had a permanent retainer in for 14 years.

See ya

I need a good whine too! I have had mine since Jan. 2006, with double jaw surgery in July, 2006. I was hoping to have them off by my May wedding but it looks like it isn't going happen. )-: HOWEVER, I still don't regret doing this at all...............trying to keep the ending point in mind!

Thank you all for your replies. A friend of mine didn't want to have braces on in her wedding photos and took them off herself  ! She ended off stripping some of the enamal off :x .

It's funny that I really never cared about my teeth being crooked prior to braces (I got them because I had a cross bite that was bothering me). But now ($5000+ later) Im in a bit of a nervous panic :) .

Thanks again. Hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend.

Scary!! I wouldn't even know where to begin!

I'm only two months in, so still happy in my braces. <--yes that's right, happy :D
It's easier to like them when people compliment them so much! We'll see what I think about this post in a year :P

You are so fortunate to be doing braces at 17 or 18 than 33 like me. I am not actually 33 yet but will be this year.

I would have given anything to have had braces as a kid but my mom couldn't afforfd them as my tuition was as much as her mortgage payment. (250 a month).

But i will wear them proudly as an adult and only hide them when I need to. (dont see any need for that. I have a great support group at work. At least 3 girls have braces including my boss, 1 just got them off, and now I will be getting them.) There are also a couple of lot attendants that have them.

Still a tad jealous that you got them as a teen when you are "supposed" to have them.... :D

I was chatting with a lovely woman last week while waiting in a line. After a bit she said to me, 'I just have to say something about your braces. I got mine off one year ago and I want you to know that it really is worth it.' I thought that was a very nice way to encourage someone.

Its very cool that a complete stranger said something so encouraging let alone anything at all.
